Koi Pond Portfolio - 21000 gallons, East Sussex

This huge pond was constructed over several months by Nippon Nishikigoi in 2004. It is located at the front of a large house next to the drive and creates quite an impression to visitors. On the site was a large bank which occupied the area of the new pond, this was duely removed using heavy plant and multiple muck away lorries. The pond was then excavated to 7ft and the base poured, the finished pond is 9ft deep and has a shelf. Built with conventional concrete blocks reinforced with rebar and further concrete, the pond was rendered before fibreglassing. The walls of the pond are clad from preformed Ryedale blocks and capped with sandstone. The bank is held back by a massive retaining wall using two skins of steel reinforced concrete block and again clad in Ryedale blocks. The impressive waterfall is built using 20 tonnes of Norwegian black granite and was constructed last thing following fibreglass prep work shown in the photo's below. The filtration is 2 Nexus 300's on the 4 bottom drains with 2 bead filters on the skimmer lines, powered by 4 large pumps, all concealed in two decking covered filter bays at each end of the pond. The waterfall runs as a seperate feature and is powered by two large submersible pumps which push around 7500 gph each to create the impressive effect. Once completed the pond was planted above with a mix of rich tropical and japanese planting and the drive completed to the edge of the pond.
