Koi Pond Portfolio - 5000 gallons, Kent

This inground rock style pond was built in 2007 by Nippon Nishikigoi and is located to the rear of a large town house. There was an old concrete pond on the site which leaked badly and had poor filtration. An excavator was brought in with a breaker on to remove the concrete shell of the previous pond and excavate to 6ft and the concrete base was then poured. The pond is built using traditional block, rendered and fibreglassed and finished with matured sandstone. The filtration is provided by an Ultrasieve and bead filter powered by two pumps and concealed under the decking viewing platform accessable by the bridge. The shape of the pond is unique and has a shallow area under the bridge to allow the koi to be viewed with ease. A small waterfall is present constructed from concrete block, fibreglassed upon which the stone was then placed. The final landscaping included rebuilding the stone rockery areas around the pond and replanting.
