Koi Pond Portfolio - 3800 gallons, East Sussex

Built in 2004 in few weeks by Nippon Nishikigoi this compact pond is designed with a loose oriental theme. Built on the site of a previous smaller pond which was removed prior to starting, this pond was excavated to 4ft before the concrete base was poured. The pond is built using traditional block, rendered and fibreglassed and clad with round timber capped sandstone. The filtration is provided by an Ultrasieve fed from a single bottom drain feeding to a double Bakki Shower fiilter, this is all concealed under decking. Powered by 3 pumps the turnover is significant and creates an environment key to the raising of nishikigoi. The pond is heated by electric, however this is soon going to be converted over to gas boiler and heat exchanger system. The pond was constructed with the forethought of integrating a polycarbonate covered pergola to shade the pond which has a unique Japanese theme to the surround. Final finishing touches included lighting for night time viewing and the Japanese red trellis to hide the filtration system. The finished landscaping included mature planting to soften the pond into the garden.
